The personal data of Zimbabwe’s citizens and in particular those of the most vulnerable are subject to excessive scrutiny by public and private operators as the government implements welfare packages during the COVID-19 pandemic, write lawyers Otto Saki and Nompilo Simanje in an opinion piece for The Independent.
The pair also state that Zimbabwe’s data protection bill is now long overdue while more and more sources of personal data are created, such as mandatory SIM registration.
